On factory pull-start engines (C85-12 thru O-300-C),
authority is by modification per STC
SE10076SC (engine modification) and STC
SA10077SC (airframe modification to replace
pull-start mechanism with push to start button).
Be aware there is a typo on page 3 of 3 of STC
SE10076SC. The FAA typed the wrong STC number at
the top of the page. It should read STC SE10076SC,
not SA1007SC. We have asked the FAA repeatedly for
correction for over three years!!! We continue to do so.
Support Docs for the STC(s) listed above can be found here.
This includes a letter of authorization to use the
STC's. |

Notes of explanation on
Lycoming Applications:
Sky-Tec starters LS, PM and HT
are manufactured under PMA (parts Manufacturer Approval)
Supplement 1 for
use on Lycoming Engines. Lycoming
Service Instruction 1154(current
revision) is documentation allowing these starters to be
installed a replacement for identical or any previously
certified Lycoming starter. We anticipate the NL Model
will also be added to 1154 shortly. Meanwhile,
authorization for installation of the NL model is per the PMA
PQ0852SW Supplement 7.
Since certification of all Sky-Tec Lycoming starters is by PMA,
the only paperwork required is an engine logbook entry by the
installing A&P and a W&B change in the AFM.
That covers 99% of Lycoming engines (give or take).
However, if on the slim chance your Lycoming engine never had
a starter on it previously (you added a Sky-Tec starter to a
hand-prop Lycoming Engine), Sky-Tec has STC's for most
Lycoming engines. Installations for which an STC is used as
authority for installation will require an FAA form 337 to be
filed by an IA.

*Remember, STCs are
ONLY required if your Lycoming engine never had a
starter on it previously. Otherwise, refer to
Lycoming Service Instruction #1154 (see links above).
As such, these STC's are only available by contacting
Sky-Tec during regular business hours (8a-5p CST). |
Although use of Lycoming SI-1154
eliminates the need for the use of the STC as authority for
installation, nothing prevents installation by use of the STC
and 337, if the owner prefers.
