Starter Run On Light Kit

MSRP $99

Order Part Number - Si14-28

STC CERTIFIED

Sky-Tec partnered with Jack Johnson at Texas Skyways to offer the following FAA STC approved upgrade for most aircraft.

WHY A RUN-ON LIGHT?

Before Sky-Tec innovated the Bendix-free electrically engaged piston engine aircraft starter, stuck starters were certainly a common, if not epidemic issue.  But even with the advent of Sky-Tec's Bendix-free starter line, a "stuck" starter is still an occasional concern for owner/operators of aircraft configured with firewall starter contactor solenoids.  See Stuck Solenoids for more information regarding this issue.   The problem appears to be most prevalent in aircraft that were certified by their manufacturers with improper solenoid types as is the case with Cessna and Piper aircraft or aircraft utilizing one of the more popular brands of starter solenoid that are simply poorly built for the mission of supporting high torque, lightweight high-performance starters like Sky-Tec's.

HOW IT WORKS

Okay, it's not rocket science, but quite simply, a fused wire connects the starter motor to a light bulb on the instrument panel, lighting the lamp whenever the starter is powered.  On Bendix-equipped starters (non-Sky-Tec-types), if the Bendix fails to release, the starter motor, now driven by the running engine, generates sufficient power to more than aptly light the starter run on lamp.  It may even glow bright enough to save you a trip to the tanning salon.  Alternatively, the lamp will also light should the aircraft-mounted starter contactor solenoid ever 'weld' providing power to the starter unexpectedly allowing the pilot to take proper action regarding his starter-engaged situation.  This second function is also applicable to non-Bendix-equipped starters such as Sky-Tec starters.

THE KIT

The kit contains all the parts you'll need for most aircraft applications along with the STC paperwork needed to record your aircraft modification with the FAA.  It even contains both a 14 as well as a 28 volt bulb for installation in 12V or 24V aircraft electrical systems.
