Model ST12RX

Sky-Tec Model ST12RX for Rotax engines were designed to replace the "Heavy Duty" Rotax starters referenced on Rotax Service Bulletin SB-912-037 and SB-914-023 (Rotax P/N 889750) and retain all of Sky-Tec's commitments to advanced engineering, manufacture and product support as Sky-Tec's entire line of Flyweight™ starters including:

- Lightweight (only 4.1 lbs!)

- Higher torque (10% more than Rotax P/N 889750)

- Heavy Duty

- Lower current draw (10% less than Rotax P/N 889750)

- Approved for S-LSA and other aircraft with Rotax 912 or 914 engines

- Experimental only!  Not for use on certified aircraft such as Diamond DA-20's!

Sky-Tec Model ST12RX for Rotax engines are identical in size & weight to the "Heavy Duty" Rotax starter (P/N 889750)

Download Dimensioned Drawing Here, for typically less than HALF the price of a new Rotax starter.

And just as with the OEM "Heavy Duty" Rotax starter (P/N 889750), there are two cast aluminum mounting bosses on the rear of the starter (brush holder/comm end plate) that may interfere with other components on some aircraft.  Those bosses may be removed/machined off by the installing mechanic by any reasonable means to enable installation.

LSA Certification is dictated by each aircraft manufacturer.  To receive authorization for use of the Sky-Tec ST12RX starter on your aircraft model, please ask an authorized agent of your LSA's manufacturer to download, complete and e-mail the following form to Sky-Tec:  LSA Manufacturer's Authorization.

Completed authorizations will eventually be listed here (none written to date).

  LSA

If you think LSA's "newness" has you confused, try being a PMA parts manufacturer.  We've sought the FAA's guidance on what is required for "certification" of replacement parts on S-LSA certified aircraft and this is what we've been told VERBATIM:

FAR 91.327(b)5 which reads, "Each alteration accomplished after the aircraft's date of manufacture meets the applicable and current consensus standard and has been authorized by either the manufacturer or a person acceptable to the FAA."  therefore, we have sought authorization from all currently certified LSA manufacturers using Rotax four-stroke engines.  Click Here to see a list of manufactures and copies of their authorization(s) to use Sky-Tec Rotax starters on their LSA certified aircraft (none written to date).
