| Description |
The newest
member of the Sky-Tec product family features a high-torque,
wound field motor. Its light weight (of course) - only 9.4
lbs. - and advanced
design is capable of replacing nearly all original
equipment as well as certified replacement starters on
non-geared Lycoming engine-powered aircraft*. The key
to the starter’s broad adaptability is its compact, inline solenoid/motor arrangement that fits well within the profile of
Lycoming’s original equipment starters.
* Will not fit newer C206 (those take a factory OEM Sky-Tec 149-24PM) or any
B60 aircraft (those take a Sky-Tec 149-24HT).
|
The
original High-Torque is where it all started with
Sky-Tec. Developed (and redeveloped) over nearly
twenty years now, the newest, lightweight version of the
Original High-Torque is a perfect solution for helicopter,
bush plane and charter operations requiring a rugged
design, maximum reliability & service life.
Designed to spin the prop twice as fast during start, the
Original High-Torques feature an environmentally sealed
case, rugged all metal gears and steel ball bearings, a
heavy-duty drive and rugged field-wound motor. |
The
product synonymous with the Sky-Tec name, The Original Flyweight™
provides unmatched value in Lycoming
replacement starters. These are our most popular
starter models (Models PM & LS). They feature
permanent magnet motors unmatched value, reliable
performance, high-torque, a ten pound weight savings over
stock starters and twice the spin of old, heavyweight OEM
starters resulting in faster and easier engine starts -
especially improving hot engine start performance.

Installation Instructions for all Sky-Tec Starters |
The LS/PM models are the flagship of the
Sky-Tec product family. They are identical to each other
in composition and performance, however LS models have the solenoid at the 2:30
o’clock position (as viewed from the front) and the PM models
have the solenoid at the 7:30 position.
Select the right model for your aircraft based on the location
of accessories around your starter using the fit
guide. When unsure, purchase the High-Torque Inline
starter - it WILL fit!
Our Lycoming
starters also feature an integrated starter solenoid for
homebuilt applications not wishing to install a separate
firewall solenoid. Click
here for details.
LS/PM models weigh 7.8 lbs and HT models weigh
8.5
lbs. The new high-torque
inline weighs 9.4 lbs.
The time-tested HT Model continues to be a top
seller in applications needing additional ruggedness,
performance and reliability. It's nose design makes it a
good fit for many tight cowling applications and its performance
makes it the original starter of choice for large engine
applications (Lycoming 720 series-powered aircraft). The
HT's performance characteristics are nearly identical to those
of the HTI listed in the chart above.
The new High-Torque Inline starter is
the recommended starter for short-wing
Pipers, retractable Cessnas, helicopters, rugged operations
and harsh environments or applications with minimal clearance in
front of and around the starter.

Why Buy Sky-Tec
- No. 1. While following a crowd may not
be sound justification for everything, there must be a
reason 60,000+ customers (and thousands more every month)

automobiles or a new design created from scratch from a
single aerospace company in a vacuum?
- Smarter Engineering. We engineer
smarter - use of lighter weight materials, stronger
components and innovative features you cannot find
elsewhere.
- All we do is starters. We know what
we're doing and we sincerely want to provide you the
