If your aircraft has a
pull-type starter, installation will require some modifications:
Your pull starter mechanically engages the starter drive
while simultaneously supplying power to the starter motor.
The Sky-Tec C12ST2 engages electromechanically so you must do
two things:
 |
Order the "kit" (KCST2) which includes a
C12ST2/S starter, push button, wiring harness, STC's and
instructions. |
 |
Replace your pull-start "T-Handle" (or knob)
with the push-button switch and wiring harness in the kit. |
 |
Cut-off the shaft in the rear of your engine upon which your pull-starter's pinon
gear used to ride. This can be done by following the STC modification
instructions. |
If your aircraft has been previously converted from a
pull-starter:
Ah, this one's easy! Just order a C12ST2/S from your
favorite dealer, install and enjoy (we even include the gasket). The /S will be a
"short-nose" starter that will clear the previously
cut-off pinon gear shaft inside the rear of the engine.
If your aircraft was manufactured with a push button (or
mag switch) starter:
Another easy one. Order a stock C12ST2 starter from
your favorite dealer, install and enjoy. We even include
the gasket! The stock starter has a
small dowel boss on the nose of the starter that will reside within
the needle bearing inside the rear of the engine. The only
purpose for that dowel is to keep your bearing needles from
falling out. There is no need to pull the bearing.
What if you're unsure which engine you have?
Take off the accessory case on the rear of your engine.
Look inside, toward the top most area of the cavity. If
you see a hole (actually, that's the inside of a needle
bearing), order the stock C12ST2. If you see a flush-cut
shaft, order a short-nose (C12ST2/S). If you see a shaft,
order the KCST2 conversion kit.
How much does it cost?
Please visit our dealers'
websites for the latest pricing, but currently the C12ST2
is being offered for less than $550 while the KCST2 is
running under $600 in most cases.

Safe for ALL TCM starter
adaptors!
The new CxxST3 starter has been redesigned from the ground-up
to achieve incomparable, aggressive design goals:
 |
Incredibly low weight (only 6.5 lbs!); |
 | Aggressive gear
reduction for high torque w/low current draw; |
 |
A patent-pending, common-sense design
that eliminates the majority of "broken spring" scenarios that
occur so frequently on TCM's new "improved style"
(their quotes, not ours) starter adaptors; |
 | Nearly instantaneous
release of the starter adaptor wrap spring virtually
eliminates starter-induced adaptor wear; |
 | Approved and
recommended for ALL starter adaptors ("classic
style", "improved style", "permold",
"sand cast", etc.); |
 |
A simple, easy-to-install, bolt-off/bolt-on,
maintenance-free starter that fits the entire
"large" series Continental engines (with
right-angle starter adapters) from O-300-D through
TSIO-550 engines; |
 |
Highest torque possible with minimal current draw
(you're going to LOVE how it cranks those
Continental-powered Cessna's with the battery way in
the back!); |
 |
Attractively designed and affordably produced making it
the first and only choice in lightweight
large Teledyne Continental engine starters. |
How is the Sky-Tec
starter different?
The ST3 starter
incorporates an innovative clutching system which enables
the starter to engage the TCM starter adaptor while
powered and completely disengage the powerful permanent
magnet motor while the starter is unpowered. This
positive disengagement allows the TCM starter adaptor to
fully unwrap under all normal operating conditions thus
greatly prolonging starter adaptor life.
How do I know which one
to buy?
This one is pretty
easy! If your TCM engine has a right-angle starter
adaptor at the rear of the engine, chances are this
starter is the right one for your application.
Consult our extensive aircraft
fit guide just to be sure.
